A seven-stage movement through collapse, depth, presence, and return.
The details differ from person to person, but the shape is often familiar: a life built on effort and responsibility begins to crack; the old world loosens; descent begins; something deeper is encountered; and, over time, a different life becomes possible.
This framework is not meant to master the passage. It is an attempt to name the terrain so people can stop imagining they are simply having a bad week, losing their faith, or failing beyond repair.
For me, this path has not ended in a vague spirituality. It has become a more explicit return to Christ — not as borrowed certainty, but as the Presence that remained when other securities failed.
The life of burden, competence, responsibility, and over-identification with what must be held together. From the outside, it often looks admirable. From the inside, it can feel increasingly strained, false, or unsustainable.
If some part of this path feels familiar, you are not alone. Many people are moving through these stages without language, companionship, or a way to understand what their lives are asking of them.
Some are trying to find their way after faith collapse. Some are standing in the ruins of an inherited world. Some are discovering, often to their surprise, that the deeper they go, the more the path begins to take on a Christward shape.
That is the work I care most about: helping people recognize the terrain, remain present within it, and live more truthfully as the next life begins to take shape.
